Plain vinyl stickers are the classic, but sometimes you want your design to shine. That’s where specialty finishes come in. At StickerWise we print three of them in-house: chrome, holographic, and glitter. They all catch the light, but each one does it differently, and the right pick depends on your design and where the sticker is going.
Here’s how to choose.
The quick answer
- Chrome — a mirror-like metallic finish. Best for sleek logos, lettering, and anything that should feel premium.
- Holographic — a rainbow shimmer that shifts as you move it. Best for merch, packaging, and designs that should grab attention.
- Glitter — a sparkly, textured surface that twinkles from every angle. Best for parties, gifts, beauty brands, and anything fun.
- Vinyl — no special effect, but full control over every color, including solid white. Best when your design needs to look exactly like your file.
First, the one thing every specialty finish has in common
Chrome, holographic, and glitter all get their effect from the material, not from ink. We print your colors directly on top of the shiny stock, and our printer doesn’t use white ink. That means:
Any white or very light area in your design won’t print white. It will show the chrome, rainbow, or sparkle underneath instead.
This is exactly what makes these stickers look so good. A white logo on a dark background becomes a shiny chrome logo. A pastel illustration picks up a soft rainbow glow. But if your design needs solid white (like white text that has to read clearly), vinyl is the better choice.
A few tips that apply to all three finishes:
- Bold colors and dark outlines look best.
- Pastels and light greys come out lighter than on screen, with more shine showing through.
- Leave some areas white or unprinted on purpose — that’s where the effect really pops.

Chrome stickers
Chrome has a reflective, mirror-like silver finish. Your printed colors take on a subtle metallic sheen from the chrome underneath, so everything looks a little more polished.
Choose chrome if:
- You want your logo to look high-end or “metal”
- Your design has strong lettering, outlines, or badge-style shapes
- You’re making stickers for cars, motorcycles, tech, tools, or premium packaging
Design tip: Chrome looks amazing on designs that were built for metallic, like emblems, crests, and bold type. Use white in your artwork anywhere you want pure mirror shine.
Holographic stickers
Holographic stock throws a rainbow shimmer that shifts and changes color as the sticker moves through the light. The same sticker looks different from every angle.
Choose holographic if:
- You want people to stop and look twice
- You’re making merch, band or artist stickers, or product labels
- Your brand is colorful, playful, or a little futuristic
Design tip: Open space is your friend. Big white or light areas turn into rainbow, so designs with bold shapes and room to breathe show off the effect best.
Glitter stickers
Glitter stickers have a textured, sparkling surface that twinkles from every direction. They’re the most playful of the three.
Choose glitter if:
- You’re making stickers for parties, weddings, baby showers, or kids
- You run a beauty, boutique, or craft brand
- You want something that feels fun and handmade
Design tip: Keep it simple. Glitter’s texture makes very fine text and tiny details harder to read, so go with bold shapes, larger text, and strong outlines.
When to stick with classic vinyl
Specialty finishes aren’t right for every design. Go with vinyl stickers if:
- Your design has white areas that must print white
- You need exact brand colors, including pastels
- Your design has small text or fine detail
- You’re ordering large quantities on a budget — vinyl is our most affordable option
